Daikin Mini-Split Code E8
Soft lockout
Input overcurrent detection. Input current to the outdoor unit exceeded roughly 9.25 to 20 A for 2.5 seconds while the compressor was running (the trip point drops as outdoor temperature rises).
Manual wording: “E8 Input overcurrent detection”
Documented for: RKS/RXS pair outdoor units, FTXM-W/V outdoor units
Likely causes, most common first
- Outdoor temperature is out of operation range
- Defective compressor
- Defective power module
- Defective outdoor unit PCB
- Short circuit
What you can safely check yourself
- Check whether the outdoor temperature is far outside the unit's rated operating range
- Check the outdoor unit has clear airflow and is not blocked by snow, leaves or a cover
- Turn the system off at the breaker or disconnect switch and back on once
When to call a technician
E8 means the unit is drawing more current than allowed. Measuring input current and checking the compressor windings requires a technician.
A Daikin mini-split throwing this code repeatedly has a reason — clearing the code without fixing the cause just hides it.
