Mitsubishi Electric Mini-Split Mode Conflict

Operation mode conflict on a multi-zone MXZ system, not a hardware failure. Two indoor units were set to opposite modes (one to COOL or DRY, one to HEAT). A single MXZ outdoor unit can only do one at a time, so whichever indoor unit started first wins and the other one stops.
Manual wording: “The operation mode of the each indoor unit is differently set to COOL (includes DRY) and HEAT at the same time, the operation mode of the indoor unit that has operated at first has the priority.”

Likely causes, most common first
- One indoor unit set to COOL or DRY while another on the same outdoor unit is set to HEAT
What you can safely check yourself
- Set every indoor unit on the system to the same mode (all cooling, or all heating)
- Check the mode setting on each remote, including any room you are not using
- Note that DRY counts as cooling for this purpose
When to call a technician
If every head is already set to the same mode and one still refuses to run, have a technician check the system.
A Mitsubishi Electric mini-split throwing this code repeatedly has a reason — clearing the code without fixing the cause just hides it.
