Documented for: S8B1, S8V2, S9V2 and S9V2-VS furnaces

Likely causes, most common first

  1. 1st stage gas valve (MVL) is energized when it should be off
  2. Gas valve relay stuck closed on the control board

What you can safely check yourself

  • Turn the furnace switch off and leave it off until a technician has looked at it

When to call a technician

Call a technician. A gas valve energized without a command is a safety fault involving the gas valve circuit.

A Trane furnace throwing this code repeatedly has a reason — clearing the code without fixing the cause just hides it.
