Soft lockout

Low-stage pressure switch never closed. The draft inducer is running but the control cannot prove venting, so the burners will not light. Usually a blocked vent pipe or a plugged condensate drain.

Likely causes, most common first

  1. Pressure switch hose blocked, pinched, or connected improperly
  2. Blocked flue pipe and/or inlet air pipe, blocked drain system or weak induced draft blower
  3. Incorrect pressure switch set point or malfunctioning switch contacts
  4. Loose or improperly connected wiring

What you can safely check yourself

  • Check the outdoor intake and exhaust pipes for snow, ice, leaves or a nest
  • Check the condensate drain line and trap for a clog or standing water
  • Make sure drifting snow has not buried the vent terminal

When to call a technician

If the pipes and drain are clear, the pressure switch, hose and inducer need a technician. Do not bypass the pressure switch.

A Amana furnace throwing this code repeatedly has a reason — clearing the code without fixing the cause just hides it.
